History of AVON

The history of Avon company looks like a fairy tale.
At the end of XIX century David McConnell, a young Irish bookseller came up with an idea how to encourage his customers, to every purchase he was adding a little scented gift. It turned out that the fragrance became more popular than the books he was selling. Encouraged by the success, David established his own cosmetic company in 1886- ‘California Parfum Company’. He knew that the personal contact with the customer is the best form of selling-in this case woman recommends cosmetics to another woman. Avon’s first consultant was P.F.E Albee- ‘AVON LADY’.
This way the first time in history  woman has gained financial independence, 34 years before the right to vote. The company developed rapidly and expanded the range of beauty products. The old name was no longer valid in 1939, the company changed its name to Avon Products Inc. At this point, AVON is a key player in the cosmetics market and is undisputed leader in direct sales. Sells products in more than 120 countries around the world with over 6.2 million consultants. Works with global fashion houses and famous celebrities. The company employs more than 350 leading experts who participate in the Global Research and Development Center in Suffern, New York, working on new technologies and patents. Avon's competitiveness results from a unique distribution channel which is direct sales and also from customized approach to maximise the quality of customer service and consultants satisfaction.
